SCUMWORM 6 track e.p.

This is a six track e.p available on bandcamp by Spanish grindcore band Scumworm, and a wee belter it is!! Starting off with "Accion Violenta" it rattles on at a great pace, a right good mix of old style grind with some death metal, they are a decent band, good musicianship, some frenetic drumming and great guitar work and great raspy, growly vocals. Coming in at around 10 minutes it is worth checking out, my favourite track on the e.p. is "Gentrification Masiva" but all tracks are good, give it a listen and see what you think, worth checking out in my opinion!!

MUNGING CORPSE "Blood Soaked Woods" e.p.

This is a three track e.p.from Munging Corpse from Tupelo, Mississippi, kicking off with a grand blast of grind "Machete Embedded Skull" real power and it continues with the shorter second track "Extreme Debridement" 34 seconds of the same all out aural attack. The third track is the title track and is in the same vein as the previous two, a bit slower but a menacing tone to it, really good. Watch out for this two man deathgrind band as they are worth checking out. This e.p. and other material is all on bandcamp, go to it!!

RECTAL PROLAPSE

Got this from one man grindcore band Rectal Prolapse, well worth a listen, but he seems to be quiet at the moment, if you get the chance check it out.

I'm dr. A.C. Prolapse from the cold province of Québec in Canada. Rectal Prolapse was born in july 2015 as a side project. Gore-noise and gore grind are a true passion to me, when i listen to it or when i'm recording some tracks it brings me to a nice mental state. A lot like meditation. Rectal Prolapse is only a studio project, i would'nt turn down a big gore-event but, here in Montreal Québec the gore-grind scene is pretty small. Were only a couple dudes who really dig that stuff. My inspiration comes mainly from horror movies, pathological an forensic videos. But some of my biggest inspirations are Carcinoma of unknown origins (Bobby Maggard project), Anal Birth, Vomitoma, Colostomy Filter and also Rectal abscess infection discharge (Bob macabre project). Right now i have released 6 demos, 3 on Running Trought the blood productions and 3 on Sulfuric Diarrhea records. I had some positive feed-back from the start, the first demo was realy a good hit, wich give me motivation to make even more filth. This project should be continuing for a good time since its a side project and i always have some time to work on it. My other main project/bands are: Purulent Cystocentesis, Barbaric Penetration, Vaginal Addiction and Exsanguinate. You can expect a lot more filthy Rectal Prolapse demos coming in the future and the sound will only get more nasty.

GOREBORE

Another interview, this time with Maryland grinders Gorebore, again a wee bit dated but still relevant for all that, so here we go!!!

1. A bit of background information, when formed, who is in the band etc?

One Mr. Nick Temoshok on vocals, a Mr. A.J. Brandenburg on guitar, and a Mr. Mike Boyle on drums.

Mike: Well, The band was formed in mid 2014, originaly a 2 piece. A.J. and I were in a band with Nick, and Gorebore was formed as a side project. We were getting into a different sound, and had ideas that didn't fit the band's Tech Death sound. After writing more material, we had desided we needed a single vocalist, so we asked Nick to join and bam.. you've got Gorebore.

2. What inspires you when writing your material?

Nick: Jesus.
Mike: A good bit of the ol' Devil's lettus, and a few angry thoughts.
A.J.: Any brand of alcohol that has a pirate on it.

3. What is the scene like in your local area, do you get much chance to play live and what feedback do you get?

We love the scene in Baltimore. A lot of amazing people, promoters, musicians, and music lovers alike. We've met TONS of cool people playing in this area as long as each of us have in our music careers. But, honestly, we kind of feel like it's slowly dying. Less people out at shows, iconic Baltimore venues have been shut down because of rent raises, legal problem, or otherwise. It's honestly worrism. But we won't give up on our scene. BUY MERCH! BUY ALBUMS! HELP THESE MUSICIANS WITH THEIR DREAMS!

4. Have you recorded much and if so what and where can we get it?

We're ALWAYS working on new material. We'll be taking the winter to record and write, then we plan on getting started on our first EP in the spring. We have splits planned as well with our buddies in Rotting Phallus, and Cheerleader Concubine. But as of now, we have 2 singles and a live Demo entitled "Here Comes the Gore". 5.What is it about Grind and Slam that does it for you? If you were trying to explain to someone new to the scene how would you describe it?

A.J.: You know how a mother bird chews up the worm, and vomits into the babies mouth? Thats what slam does for me. It takes music, and beats it to a pulp, so its easier to digest.

Mike: Slam and Grind are perfect together in my eyes. Its like a car crash. Grind is the car, driving at 120 mph (or 193 kmh) down the freeway. And Slam is the brick wall waiting for impact. Once the two mashes together, you get the sound of pure death nastiness.

6. What has been the best gig you have played and why?

We played this show in Baltimore with these 2 touring bands from Rhode Island, Sire and Bog of the Infidel. Great show, lots of feedback. People loved it. We loved it. It was pretty sick.

7.What are your favourite bands and why?

Nick: Way too many to name.

A.J.: Most of my playlist now in days consist underground metal band. Oiltanker, Deathtoll 80k. I'm really into Aborted and Insect Warfare as well. Anything that mixes crazy bat shit grindcore and death metal. It makes me happy.

Mike: I'm really into ACxDC and Full of Hell right now. I love fast, violent sounds. And noise. Noise is always fun.

8.Do you have any side projects on the go and if so what?

Aside from Nick being part of a Death Metal band called Bestial Evil, we don't really have other projects other than Gorebore. A.J. does some acoustic work, and Mike does some Rap work. But nothing really serious.

9. Anything else you would like to add?

Nick: I love you. I love you all.
A.J.: Gorebore: One small SLAM for man. One giant BEATDOWN for mankind.

NECROPTIC ENGOREMENT

This is a review I did with Necroptic Engorement for a zine that never did surface, a bit out of date now but it's a decent interview so I thought it would be would be worth posting on here. I hope to put some more interviews on here, will see how it goes.

1. First a bit of background info on the band, who is in it, when formed etc.

The band was created in 2010 as a 1 man studio project that quickly ended up being a live band. We went through a few lineup changes in the beginning before we finally ended up deciding to be a 3 piece band. The current lineup consists of Will Escolano on bass and lead vocals, Ryan Hilerio on drums, and (I) Mike Ganly on guitar and lead vocals.

2. Why go for grind as a music form? Why do you think grind and brutal death metal is so good compared to other genres?

I have always been into really heavy music. When I discovered death metal/grind in high school, let’s just say that was when I decided I wanted to be playing this type of music and have not stopped since. The 3 of us has a real passion for this band/genre. Grind and Death Metal have a lot of aggression you won’t find in most other genres, so that’s a plus.

3. Who are your main inspiration for your music?

I listen to a lot of different types of music, especially when looking for inspiration to write death metal. We all do. Some of my favorite bands are Cannibal Corpse, Black Dahlia Murder, Metallica (88 and back), Dying Fetus, Rage Against The Machine, NOFX, Smashing Pumpkins, Evergreen Terrace, and MANY more random bands

4. How do you find your local scene and how do you find the scene nationally, do you think the U.S.A. has a better scene than elsewhere in the world?

Our local scene, (The Hudson Valley) has specifically been dying for a few years. Let’s just keep it simple and say there are still a good handful who are true to the Death Metal and Hardcore scene. The few of us who love it do what we can to keep it alive. As for other countries, I’m constantly seeing amazing tours and festivals that don’t even make it to America. I’d love for Necroptic to get out of the U.S. for a little while and explore other scenes in the world.

5. What is the best gig you have ever played and why?

The best gig we have ever done hands down was with Cannibal Corpse, Cattle Decapitation and Soreption at The Chance in Poughkeepsie in October 2015. Not only did we get to share the stage again with some of our favorite bands of all time, but we also got a fantastic response from the crowd which helps us hope more people are finding and enjoying our music.


6. Who does the writing for the band, is it a collective thing or does one person do it?

When this project started I (Mike) did a lot of the writing by myself with studio tools at home. But now that we have gone through a few lineup changes and solidified as a band, the writing has basically become a collaborative effort and we enjoy the songs we are writing now more than ever.

7. What would be your ideal line up for a gig and why?

This is a great question. There are countless numbers of bands we would love to share the stage with. If I had to make up a dream-team tour death metal lineup, it would most likely consist of, Torturous Inception, Suffocation, Dying Fetus, Dehumanized, Cannibal Corpse AND Cannabis Corpse, and of course , Necroptic Engorgement.

8. What have you released so far, do you find it easy to get stuff out there or is it a hard job?

We have 3 releases (Self Titled Demo, “Transmogrified” EP and (Born in the Morgue”) and and upcoming release set for 2016. Hustling is really important especially if you are an underground/local band. We have personally given out over 1000 demos and sold a couple hundred CD’s which is not bad for a bunch of local guys like us. 9. What other bands if any are you all involved in?

Our drummer Ryan has toured with System Divide and does session drums currently for the studio band “Serpents”. I (Mike), just recently parted ways with a hardcore band I was playing bass in called “Internal Warfare”. Plus my side project “FISTING JESUS” has been around for quite some time. Our bassist Will has also played in the old school NY thrash band “Prime Evil”

AGOTHOCLES/PSYCHONEUROSIS split

12 track split album from two of the old hands in grindcore, first 5 tracks are from Belgium grinders Agothocles, kicking off with "Ergos-Thanatos" you know what you get with Agothocles, hard and heavy grind and they blast out their part of the split in quick time. All goodies no filler from these guys!! Next up is 7 tracks from long time grinders Psychoneurosis and their portion of this split just batters on at a fair old pace!! Heavy as fuck old school grind at it's best, raw as fuck!! Like Agothocles, no filler from this band, all great tracks, "Lost Generation" being my own personal fave. Super split cd from two of the giants of old school grind, buy it if you can as it's a wee belter!! 5/5

Wardomized "Forced To Eat Fom The Apple Tree"

This is 4 track release from Northern Ireland grindcore combo Wardomized, and it kicks off with a hard and heavy as fuck track "Suicide Death Rock" great track with dual vocals which work well. This release batters on and all four tracks are really hard and heavy and work well. "Blue, White and Black Flowers" is my favourite, really slow, heavy song with really good vocals, from Stephen and guest vocalist J'aime, works out really well. Four good tracks of hard and heavy grind from a band I will be checking out some more, you can get their material on Bandcamp as is another e.p. and some live material. GLIOBLASTOMA
e.p. 2017 

Nils asked me if I fancied reviewing his new e.p. and I thought it would be rude not too!!  So here we go!! You get 5 tracks coming in at just under 10 minutes, 10 minutes of really heavy awesome stuff!! Kicks of with a blaster "End of Days and it just shreds from there on in! Not a bad track on here they all are superb, he is a really talented guitarist. Nils calls his stuff grindcore but it is more than just bog standard grind, plenty of death metal style riffs and some very nice technical flourishes on this e.p. Not a bad track on it a cracking listen, "Spider's Web" and "End of Days" my favourites, if you like heavy grind, this is for you 5/5

This is my blog where I review all things grindy!!
