PRESCRIPTION DEATH- "SUFFERING TOTALITY"

This 21 track album is from Swedish band Prescription Death and is a wee cracker, great album and blasts along at a great pace right form the first track. Most tracks are short sharp blasts lasting  from 20 odd seconds up to just short of 2 minutes. With 21 tracks on it the album batters on at a fast pace, one ear bashing making way for the next one, great stuff!! All the guys are good at what they do, sound guitar work, great rhythm section and super vocals, just spot on!

No real favourites on this album, all good tracks, well worth checking this band out, you can find them on Facebook and the album plus more on Bandcamp, well worth your time tracking them down. This album just flies in and leaves you wanting more, and hopefully we will get more!! Check them out you wont be disappointed, if you like your grind with crashing guitars and great drumming this is a band for you. Great band, great release.

When The Mountains Turn Blue- "A Penchant for Theatrics"

This is a 15 track album from When the Mountains Turn Blue who are described as Acid Punk/Noisegrind. So what do you get with this release? Well you get 15 tracks of very experimental noise, it has a real jazzy type feel to certain tracks, which works well. The band seem to be Math Dealer who sings and plays all the instruments and Seth Priske who does the analog synth. With the keyboards and synth it reminds me of Zappa in a way.

This album is a bit different from what I usually listen to but I enjoyed it, a wee bit of different does you good sometimes. It cracks on at a good pace with all the tracks being pretty decent, not a bad one on it to be honest and they range from 20 odd seconds up to nearly 5 minutes with all points in between. Fave track was "Isn't it Pedantic", cracking tune with good noise effects. The album overall is well played, he certainly can play the boy! and the synth adds to the general feel on this decidedly weird album, it's not an easy listen but I guess wasn't meant to be.

Overall a very interesting if uncomfortable listen, well worth sticking with and well worth your time in hunting it out. It is available on Mathematician Records for $8 for the download.

This is the follow up to the last post where we got the biographies of the two bands N.H.G. and Prolapso, now comes the good part for me, listening to the release to be reviewed!

First of all we get the N.H.G. side of the split, 5 tracks coming in at under 4 minutes, short sharp blasts!! All tracks are super, I really enjoyed this side, great guitars, manic drumming and super vocals, all good!! My fave tracks were "Sucio Ego" and  "A Cop Bastard" but they are all cracking tracks.

5/5

Now onto the other side of the split and Prolapso from Colombia, 7 tracks from them coming in at six minutes in length, and seven blasts of goodness it is too!! I enjoyed Prolapsos contribution to this split, some super guitar work and more great drumming, I liked the vocals too! Best tracks in my humble opinion were "Zero Tolerancia" and "Control Virus" but again not a bad track on this release.

5/5

Great release well worth getting your hands on this one, so many good bands from South America and these two are well worth keeping your eyes open for. Thoroughly enjoyed this, more please!!!

Here is a bit of background on N.H.G from Argentina and Prolapso from Colombia, real good South American Grindcore!! I will be posting up a review of their split release on the next post, but this gives a good intro into the bands. Many thanks to Ivan for providing the bios and background.

N.H.G Bio:

The band was formed at the end of 2017 as a trio format in the province of Mendoza Argentina.

At the end of 2018 he released his first studio album titled S / T with which he made his presentation at an event self-managed by the band, called extreme pool party, and then traveled to the neighboring country of Chile in January 2019 and also presented it there.

After its tour of Chile in 2019, the band changed its formation, incorporating a new drummer and holding local dates within Argentina, including one of the most important extreme music festivals in the country called Criminal Metal Camp, in the province of Cordoba in the month of November.

In February 2020 the guitarist and leader of the band Iván Morel, self-manages a date called "Ruido o Muerte" with the presentation of local bands from the province of Mendoza, which was the last date before entering the context of a pandemic and with which the band starts to display as a duo format. During 2020, in the midst of a pandemic, the band began recording new songs which would be part of 2 splits and a tribute album to Black Flag organized by The Hills Are Dead Records.

In 2021 a split that has 5 tracks comes out, which he shares with the band Prolapso from Colombia, it comes out in cassette format by the NOD (Noise Or Die) label in March of this year.

To date, the band is working to release their other split with the Grinder Flesh band from Chile, which will be released by the Wise Grinds Records label on 12 "vinyl.

You can listen to the band on your official bandcamp like: nhgfastgrindcore.bandcamp.com

N.H.G thanks all the people who have supported and continue to support the band unconditionally

Prolapso is a grindcore band from Santiago de Cali, Colombia that was created in 2012 to date there have been several lineup changes and in 2020 it reaches a stable lineup. The works that have been produced is a demo in 2013 titled Meat Bags with which it combines Death metal and classic grindcore, in 2020 the band recreates itself with an extreme sound producing a Split with Permanent Headache from Italy.

At the end of 2020, a split with the NHG band is planned to be released in early 2021, which is a split loaded with grindcore and extreme noise.

The current lineup of Polapso is:

Mauricio correa (vocals)

Oscar David (guitars)

Sergio Andres (drums)

Marvin Alvarez (bass)

The idea of doing the split came up in a bit of a crazy way. N.H.G had announced to release an EP to conclude 2020, when Prolapso guitarist Oscar contacted the band and offered to do a joint split, with the same songs that N.H.G was going to release on that EP. and since energy is neither created nor destroyed, it is only transformed, N.H.G agreed to carry it out. This split is already available in the bandcamp of each band in digital format, in March of this year it will be released in cassette format, through the Colombian label NOD (Noise Or Die Records), together with 9 other record labels.

The physical copies in cassette can be acquired with each band in particular or directly with the NOD label.

Here is a review for CONTORT 12 track demo with the title Demo 2021, which is released on cassette form and also available from bandcamp. The band are from Auckland, New Zealand and are a three piece fastcore combo. Well what do you get on this demo, well you get 12 short sharp blasts of ear bashing noise, longest track is an epic 1 minute 49 seconds while the other 11 are all about the 30 second mark.

Short sharp blasts that  are very decent indeed, not a bad track on this release I must admit I liked them all, with the whole demo coming in at around seven minutes it's an assault on your ears and leaves you wanting more. No real favourites although "Tactical Advancement" is a goodie and the longest track on it.

Summing up, this is a cracking wee demo, well worth hunting down and getting your ears blown out, I enjoyed it a lot and look forward to hearing more  from these New Zealand blasters, great stuff!!!!
